The potassium route to silicate binding.
Potassium silicate solution behaves much like sodium silicate but leaves a less hygroscopic, less efflorescing residue on drying. That difference matters in welding-electrode coatings, ceramic glaze suspensions and mineral paints, where surface bloom or moisture pick-up would be a defect.
It is also used in specialty refractory binders and in horticultural and agricultural applications where potassium is the preferred cation.
